About Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA)

The Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA) are presented annually by the Irish Film & Television Academy to honor outstanding achievements in Irish film and television. Established in 1999, the awards have become a cornerstone of Ireland’s screen industries, recognizing excellence in filmmaking, acting, and technical craft.

Initially held as a single ceremony, the awards were divided into two distinct events in 2015 to reflect the growth of Ireland’s creative industries: the IFTA Film & Drama Awards in April and the IFTA Television Awards in October.

The Film & Drama Awards celebrate a wide range of categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Script, and technical achievements such as cinematography, sound, production design, and costume design. Additionally, the Rising Star Award spotlights emerging talent, while the George Morrison Feature Documentary Award honors exceptional documentary filmmaking.

The IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes significant contributions to the industry, with past recipients including iconic figures like Maureen O’Hara, Neil Jordan, and Stephen Rea.
