The Taormina Film Fest, founded in 1955 in Messina, Sicily, and permanently relocated to Taormina in 1971, is one of Italy’s most prestigious film festivals. The festival’s notable awards include the “Cariddi d’Argento” (Silver Charybdis), introduced in 1957, and the Cariddi d’Oro alla Carriera (Golden Charybdis for Lifetime Achievement). Past recipients include Sharon Stone, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, and Richard Gere.
Taormina has premiered legendary films like Mission Impossible, Inglourious Basterds, and The Godfather. Its stunning Ancient Theatre venue and rich history have made it a beacon for international cinema and cultural exchange.
In 2024, the festival’s 70th edition honored Sharon Stone for her lifetime achievements, adding to its legacy of recognizing cinematic icons.
